The East, Central and Southern Africa College of Nursing and Midwifery (ECSACONM) invites nurses, midwives, educators, policymakers, researchers and students to participate in the 17th ECSACONM Biennial Scientific Conference, which will take place from 14 – 16 September 2026 in Dar-es-Salaam, United Republic of Tanzania , followed by the Quadrennial General Assembly on 17 & 18 September 2026.

This year’s conference will be held under the theme: “Nurses and Midwives Sustaining Quality Healthcare in a Changing World.”

The conference provides a regional platform for sharing evidence, innovations and best practices that strengthen nursing and midwifery practice, education, leadership and research across the 19 ECSA member states and beyond. Participants will engage in plenary sessions, scientific presentations, workshops and networking sessions aimed at shaping the future of healthcare delivery in a rapidly evolving environment.

CALL FOR ABSTRACT SUBMISSION - DEADLINE 30th MArch 2026

Share your research, innovations and best practices with regional and international colleagues by submitting an abstract aligned with the conference theme and sub-themes.

Sub-Themes

  • Enhancing healthcare access and equity through nursing and midwifery.
  • Strengthening leadership for advocacy and policy formulation in nursing and midwifery.
  • Promoting research and innovation to address communicable, non-communicable, emerging and re-emerging health challenges.
  • Integrating technology into nursing and midwifery regulation, education and practice.
  • Resilience and preparedness for climate change and environmental sustainability.

Abstract Submission Guidelines

  • Word Limit: The abstract must not exceed 300 words.
  • Language: All abstracts must be written in UK English.
  • Structure: Each abstract must include:
    • Background – Brief description of the problem and relevance of the study.
    • Methods – Study design, participants, data collection tools and procedures.
    • Results – Key findings presented clearly and concisely.
    • Conclusion – Main implications, recommendations or contribution to practice, policy, education or research.
  • No Figures, Tables or References: Figures, tables or reference lists are not allowed in the abstract. If a figure is exceptionally permitted, it must meet all required size and resolution standards. Authors are responsible for securing all copyright permissions.
  • Abbreviations: Spell out all abbreviations in full the first time they appear in the abstract.
  • Originality: Abstracts must be original research, evidence-based practice or policy reform and should be closely aligned with the conference theme and one of the sub-themes indicated.
  • Clarity and Accuracy: Authors should ensure the abstract is clear, coherent, scientifically sound and free of grammar or spelling errors before submission.

Once submitted, abstracts will undergo peer review. Corresponding authors will be notified of acceptance decisions and presentation format (oral or poster) according to the conference timelines.

ECSACONM Namibia Chapter

Namibia Nursing Association is a professional organisation that represents and serves the interests of nurses in Namibia. ECSACONM Zambia Chapter

Zambia has been a founder and active member of ECSACON since the college’s inauguration in1990. The country under the leadership of the then Registrar of the General Nursing Council together with other senior nurses and midwives participated into ushering ECSACON in to being. The country has held different regional positions including Presidency (Dr Eleanor Msidi) and Vice Presidency (Dr Theresa Sikateyo), faculty Chairpersons and members of the different faculties.

Zimbabwe ECSACONM Chapter

Zimbabwe ECSACONM Chapter is one of the strongest members of ECSACONM.The chapter has had an opportunity of some of our members holding the president and vice president`s posts in the past. Several of our members are founding members of ECSACONM who include Dr Rose Ndlovu (past president), Dr Cynthia Chasokela (past vice president) and Dr Cynthia Chaibva etc.

Eswatini Chapter

South Sudan ECSACONM Chapter was initially registered in 2008 during ECSACONM Conference in Kampala in 2008.

Then officially it was accepted in 2016 in a conference held in Harare, Zimbabwe.

ECSACONM Malawi Chapter

The ECSACONM Malawi chapter was established in 1990, soon after the college officially launched in the country. The chapter current membership is at 112 from all the 4 pillars of Nursing and Midwifery professions i.e., Education, Clinical Practice, Leadership & Management and Research. Representation in the Council of the National Representative (CNR) rotates to all QUAD members i.e. Policy, Regulatory, Association and Education.

ECSACONM SEYCHELLES CHAPTER

SEYCHELLES IS SITUATED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INDIAN OCOEN COMPOSED OF A NUMBER OF SMALL ISLANDS WITH A POPULATION OF 108,000. THE NURSING WORKFORCE IS A LITTLE OVER 900 AND OVER 300 MIDWIVES WHICH INCLUDES EXPATRIATES TO SUPPORT THE SYSTEM.  SEYCHELLES IS A MEMBER OF ECSACONM SINCE ITS FORMATION AND DO PARTICIPATE IN THE QUADRIENNIAL CONFERENCES.

ECSACONM RWANDA CHAPTER

ECSACONM is anchored in the Human Resource for Health and Capacity Building program of the East Central and Southern Africa Health Community (ECSA HC), plays a consultative role on Nursing and Midwifery to the existing regional structure. It forms a platform for sharing and discussing the best practices and lessons learned in the ECSACONM region through technical working groups as well as scientific conference which is conducted biannually.

ECSACONM KENYA CHAPTER

ECSACONM Kenya chapter is one of the sixteen (16) chapters in ECSA region. In existence, the chapter is as old as the college and has remained to be one of the most vibrant chapters of the college since inception. It has a membership base of about 600 nurses  though the active members are slightly over 365 nurses/midwives .The chapter prides to be the only chapter with bi annual chapter conferences for its members, and  So far it has held three (3) consecutive successful scientific conferences latest one being August 2023.
